PHYSICAL ABUSE:

  • By law generally any discipline that leaves a mark. (bruises, welts, scars or open wounds)

  • Discipline- what the law has to say.

 

PHYSICAL NEGLECT:

  • Neglect is frequently defined as the failure of a parent or other person with responsibility for the child to provide needed food, clothing, shelter, or supervision to the degree that the child’s health, safety, and well-being are threatened with harm.

  • In Colorado this is also failure to educate the child. In some states it is also failure to provide medical care.

 

 

 

EMOTIONAL ABUSE:

  • WORDS, ACTIONS AND INACTIONS MATTER. Emotional child abuse is maltreatment which results in impaired psychological growth and development. Parents, teachers, pastors, social workers, neighbors, lawyers, or judges may all be capable of emotional maltreatment.

 

 

 

EMOTIONAL NEGLECT:

  • Emotional neglect involves failing to provide emotional support that one should provide, given one's relationship to the other.

  • Emotional neglect is also distinct from emotional abuse.
